Panasonic TH-42PX600U

A fine performer and a good value this TV displayed very good picture quality for HD and DVD and good for standard-definition. A minor quibble: Images were slightly over-sharpened and had a slight boost in edge-enhancement. The set was able to accept a 1080p signal from a Blu-ray HDTV player via its HDMI input though image detail was scaled to fit this TV’s lower native resolution. It has a SD Card port on the front panel that enables you to display digital photos. But the remote can be hard to use in low lighting.

Great Camcorder for Basic Recording – Panasonic SDR-H18

By Terra · Saturday, December 22nd, 2007 · 1 Comment »

panasonic-sdr-h18.jpg

Unlike the awkward body designs we’ve seen with some recent SD-based camcorders, the SDR-H18 is very comfortable to hold. Part of the reason is that designers had to find a place to put the camcorder’s hard drive, which finds its home in the right side of the body–creating an iPod-sized block that is just the right shape for a hand to wrap around. Almost all the camcorder’s controls are also on the right-hand side; most of them can easily be reached with either a forefinger or thumb.

Palm TX – A portable business warrior

By Terra · Tuesday, December 18th, 2007 · 1 Comment »

The Palm TX is well appointed in the features department. Under the hood, the TX is powered by a 312MHz Bulverde Intel processor and comes with 128MB of nonvolatile flash memory, 100MB of which is user-accessible. Not only is the amount of memory sufficient for copious numbers of contacts, appointments, and other PIM data, but you’re also guarded from losing all your data if your PDA happens to run out of juice. A word to the wise: Multimedia files, such as MP3s and video clips, take up a lot of memory, so we recommend investing in a memory card or two to carry such files. The TX’s expansion slot accepts up to 2GB SD cards.

Get Rocking with Onkyo HT-S790 (black)

By Terra · Tuesday, December 18th, 2007 · No Comments »

onkyo-ht-s790b.jpg

The Onkyo HT-S790 package includes the A/V receiver and an 8-piece speaker set, along with the necessary cabling to connect it all together. Onkyo doesn’t include a DVD player, but–since you already have one anyway–you’re not paying extra for something you don’t need. The receiver delivers 110 watts per channel and uses 192KHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converters to handle surround processing for Dolby Digital, Dolby EX, Pro Logic IIx, DTS, DTS-ES, DTS Neo:6, DTS 96/24, and Neural, which is used to decode XM HD Surround channels. The bass and treble controls–often curiously omitted from HTIB controls–are conveniently located on the receiver’s front panel.

Taste the Verizon’s Chocolate Music Phone

It’s odd how the cell phone market has evolved, or refused to evolve. (Or maybe it’s just odd that onsumers allow it to happen.) Imagine if the iPod only held slightly more songs that it did when first introduced, only played songs purchased from Apple (at twice the price), and didn’t come with headphones an extra charge). It wouldn’t be the hot gadget. Yet cell phone providers routinely gouge their customers in the same way.he Chocolate features a cool Flash interface to match its glossy exterior, but once you start using the phone you’ll discover it’s lousy with restrictions.
